We have a Hummingbird feeder hanging right in the middle of our front window. In addition to the feeder, there are several hanging and potted flowering plants for those little “hummers” to feed off all summer. They really are fun to watch as they go from flower to flower and to the feeder for a quick sip and then on their way! The entire species always seems to be in a hurry…well, almost the entire species!
For the last three years we have had one Hummingbird that will come to the feeder, take a sip and sit, look around, take another sip after a couple of minutes and just sit and look around like he is totally enjoying life! I’ve seen this bird sit for over 15 minutes while others come and go to the other side of the feeder. He’s also the only one that doesn’t fly away when we walk past the window while he’s there – almost like after 3 years he knows us.
”Be still and know that I am God” Psalm 46:10
As I was out on my tractor and I thought about those Hummingbirds, it brought to mind a story from the Bible in the book of Luke when Jesus visits Martha and Mary: “As Jesus and his disciples went on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha welcomed him in her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat down at the feet of the Lord and listened to his teaching. Martha was upset over all the work she had to do, so she came and said, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her to come and help me!” The Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha! You are worried and troubled over so many things, but just one is needed. Mary has chosen the right thing, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38-42 (GNT)
How about us today? Do we read God’s word, then reflect on it while we ponder how God might use us to help someone?
Whenever we get troubled over “so many things” maybe we need to relax, think about that Hummingbird sitting there, then ask God to help us choose “the right thing”.
Till Next Time…..
